Empyrium - Discography


Band: Empyrium
Genre: Dark Neofolk
Country: Germany

   Empyrium is a german band founded in 1994 by Ulf Theodor Schwadorf and Andreas Bach. In 1997 Nadine Mölter (Ulf's wife) joined the band, but in 1999 she left the band. In 2002 Andreas left the band and Thomas Helm joined in. Empyrium split-up in 2006, but they got back together in 2010.
   It is hard to describe Empyrium's style of music, they use the melody of the neofolk and the melancholy of the darkwave, all mixed with a few other genres, this combination creates something completely original, I call this style of dark neofolk for the lack of a better name.
   Empyrium creates an atmosphere so beautiful, but in my opinion the highlight of this band is the lyrics which manages to translate the melody into words, it is really rare to find a band that have both lyrics and instrumentals so well made, like this one.
   Empyrium is one of my favorite bands, I highly recommend this band for everyone.

Burzum - Discography

Country: Norway

   Burzum is a norwegian band founded in 1991 by Varg Vikernes. He is among those who started the norwegian black metal scene.
   Obviously all of you know the story involving the church burning and the death of Euronymous, if you are not familiar with it I highly recommend you to watch the documentary Satan Rides the Media (youtube), just keep in mind that this documentary is sensationalist.
   There is a rumor saying that Varg is not playing anymore, that is not true, he just decided to stop playing black metal.
   Burzum is the most influent band in all the black metal sub-genres and probably the most famous, I honestly don't see the need to say what everyone already knows: how great this band is.

Wilds Forlorn - Discography

   Wilds Forlorn is a one man band from netherlands, it was founded in 2008 by Yuri Theuns. He also plays in the band Eater of Souls, that is another solo project of his.
   The atmosphere created by him is just mesmerizing, the songs range between harsh black metal and acoustic. They both work so well together, the black metal part is so cold and desolate while the acoustical part is so melancholic and beautiful.
   In my opinion the highlight of his music is the piano work, I believe that he does have proper training in the classical piano, different from most black metal bands that use classical instruments but are autodidacts.
   Yuri Theuns make all his musics available for download, you can find the links in his blog, myspace or bandcamp.
   I highly recommend this band for everyone.

Potemtum Satan - Discography

   Potemtum Satan is a colombian band, I could not find much information about this band, I do not know when the band started, who the members are and how many albums they have released so far.
   The band call their genre dreamblack metal, but one could say that it is a mix between dbsm and post black metal.
   Honestly I believe that this band has a lot of potential, their music are very original, they bring something different to the depressive scene.
   Potemtum Satan will soon release their next album called Way to My Solitude, it is a split album with the band Dwell in Agony, I am not sure but I think that this will be the first release of the band Dwell in Agony. You can listen to a preview of the new album here.

NOTE: Potemtum Satam have two unreleased songs called Oscura Agonia (download) and Noches Perpetuas (download).

Inexistence - Discography

   Inexistence is an one man band from argentina, founded in 2010 by Gabriel Loco, for those of you who don't know Loco means crazy in spanish. The style of his music is mainly a mix between atmospheric and depressive black metal, but also have elements from many others genres, like post black metal, doom metal and dark ambient.
   The atmosphere created by him is just mesmerizing, takes you to dreamy lands, and when you come back, leaves you feeling so empty. It is so beautiful but at the same time so bleak.
   Inexistence is very original, I think you will never hear something similar to this again, he manages to take the best parts of each genre and put them together creating such beautiful songs.
   I highly recommend this band for everyone.

   78424325 is a mexican band founded in 2008 by M.P. and B.G. (Nostalgie, Black Hate and ex-Deep-pression). The reason for these odd name is that the numbers spell out on a cellphone the word "suicidal".
   78424325 released only one split album with the bands Managarm and Sterbenzeit, with just two songs by them, shortly after the band split-up.
   The atmosphere created by them is so anguishful, mixed with B.G.'s painful vocals, everything work so well together, it manages to bring you peace in times of distress.
   I really enjoy B.G. vocals, in my opinion this is the best project he ever played with, it is so sad that it ended so quickly, I really wanted to hear more from this band.
   I highly recommend this band for all the fans of bedroom depressive black metal.

Bitter Reflections - Discography


Band: Bitter Reflections
Genre: Depressive Black Metal
Country: Italy

   Bitter Reflections was founded in 2012 by Xasthuriath from Ukraine and Veirg (Suicide Emotions) from Italy. In 2013 Xasthuriath left the band and Letaliis (..., Photophobia and ex-Deep-pression) joined in, soon after this the band split up. During the period which Letaliis was a member, the band did not release anything.
   In my opinion the highlight of this band is the Xasthuriath's vocal, I have been her fan since the first time I heard something by her. The vocals are completely different from what you are used to in the DSBM scene, she manages to do a harsh vocal so painful and anguished, and in the next minute she is doing a clean vocal that are so beautiful and sad.
   I highly recommend this band for everyone, Bitter Reflections is one of the few bands that made, nowadays, something truly original in this scene.

Mistress of the Dead - Discography

   Mistress of the Dead is a one man band from Czech Republic founded in 2004 by Vlad Cristea Vales. I am a huge fan of the czech funeral doom scene, it is not very known but in my opinion it is one of the best in the world.
   Mistress of the Dead songs are minimalist, the vocals are very slow and deep, and each guitar chord expend for a long time. Most songs have a length of 15 minutes or more, but they are not boring and crawl out through endless minutes, it is actually very peaceful and beautiful, and when you finish listening to a song, you can't believe that it was so long.
   Differently from the common funeral doom bands, Mistress of the Dead's songs are very sad and melancholic, you can really feel the pain in Vlad vocals. I have to admit that this band is not for everyone, only those who are fan of a more slow and melancholic funeral doom will be able to enjoy this.
